High Maturity Lead Appraiser Entrance Exam

The High Maturity Lead Appraiser (HMLA) Entrance Exam is a prerequisite for the High Maturity Lead Appraiser Oral Exam. Please review the HMLA Certification Policy prior to purchasing and scheduling the exam. This exam is proctored by PSI, either remotely or at a PSI test center. 

Successful completion of the High Maturity Lead Appraiser Entry Examination requires candidates to have an in-depth understanding of: 

  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined in the Exam Content Outline 
  • The CMMI Model- all views 
  • Quantitative and statistical concepts and practical applications 
  • Organizational business objectives and relationships to CMMI practices 
  • Differences in maturity level 2, 3, 4, and 5 Practice Areas 
  • Implications of high maturity practices for projects and organizations 
  • Understanding interrelationships between maturity levels 2/3 and 4/5

The exam contains 120 multiple-choice questions and each candidate will have 4 hours to complete the exam. Candidates will be prohibited from referencing their CMMI Model, course notes or any other materials during the exam.


Registering and Scheduling for the CMMI HMLA Entrance Exam 

Before you register for the HMLA Entrance exam, it is important to verify there is a PSI test site with availability near you or that you have a compatible device for remote testing. To test your device, complete this compatibility check. If you are using a company device to take your exam, you may need your IT department’s assistance or approval. 

Those who register will receive a link to schedule the CMMI HMLA Entrance Exam at PSI. Please refer to the PSI Scheduling Guide (please note that this guide is for ISACA’s certifications but also applies to CMMI exams). The candidate will receive a scheduling confirmation email from [email protected] confirming the exam appointment. 

Candidates must take the CMMI HMLA Entrance exam within 90 days (three months) and pass within one year from the date of passing the Advancing Organizational Capability: Achieving High Maturity course. If candidates do not pass their exam within that one year, they must meet all prerequisites by resubmitting their application for the Certified CMMI High Maturity Lead Appraiser for review and approval and successfully completing the Advancing Organizational Capability: Achieving High Maturity course. 

If the candidate fails the HMLA Entrance Exam, candidate must follow the CMMI Certification – Exam Retake Policy.  

Please note: the entrance exam should not be purchased until your  Certification Application has been approved and you take and pass the Advancing Organizational Capability: Achieving High Maturity Course.
