Certification Process

1. Pass the SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training/CMMI Instructor Training

   Once you have successfully completed the training course, you will be ready to be observed.
   
   If you are a Lead Appraiser candidate, you will need to take the SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Certification Exam and you will be registered for this exam after you receive the results from the SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training cousre. 

2. Locate an observation opportunity

   Discuss with your customers potential observation opportunities as soon as possible.

3. Complete the Observation Request Form

   The Observation Request Form must be submitted to the CMMI Institute at least 90 days before the onsite portion of the appraisal or training course. You must list three potential dates for the observation as well as hotel suggestions for the observer. Return the completed form electronically to [email protected]. 

4. Finding an observer

   When the CMMI Institute receives the form, the CMMI Institute will begin searching for an available observer. The CMMI Institute will try to find an observer that speaks the language used during the appraisal/training course and someone that is local to the site. If an observer is not available that speaks the language, an interpreter will need to be provided by the candidate.

5. Scheduling the observation

   Once the observation location, date, and observer has been confirmed, the next step will be to confirm that there is no conflict of interest between the observer and the candidate, the sponsoring organization, or the organization that is being appraised/trained. Once that has been completed, the responsibility for communication and planning with the candidate shifts to the observer.

6. Good Faith Estimate

   The observer will estimate their expenses after speaking with the candidate and provide those figures to the CMMI Institute. The CMMI Institute will then prepare a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of the travel expenses, estimated hours for the observer, and other costs if necessary. The GFE will be sent to the candidate and the BPOC of their sponsoring organization for approval.

7. Good Faith Estimate Approval

   If the GFE is approved, the sponsoring organization will be invoiced for 50% of the estimated cost of the course. The 50% down payment is due 21 days before the observation is scheduled to begin.

8. After the observation

   After the observation has been completed, the observer will send the observation report to the CMMI Institute for review. They will also submit their final expenses which will be used to prepare the final invoice. The other half of the observation fee is billed at actual cost.

9. Receive​ your certification

   Once the appraisal record has been through quality review/attendee list is submitted and accepted and the observation report submitted and reviewed by the observer, the candidate will receive their certificate, have full access to the PRC, and be able to setup appraisals in the SCAMPI Appraisal System (SAS)/teach
   future classes.
